Commission for Coordinating the Dealings of Non-Governmental Organisations
By Article 3 of the Resolution No. 722 of the Government of Republic of Lithuania ‘Regarding the establishment of a Commission for Coordinating the Dealings of Non-Governmental Organisations and the confirmation of its statutes’, passed on June 7, 2010 (Official Gazette, 2010, No. 69-3447), it was resolved that a Commission for Coordinating the Dealings of Non-Governmental Organisations should be established (the chairman of the commission – the vice minister of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, the vice chairman – a representative of NGOs), and the Commission's statutes should be confirmed. The minister of Social Security and Labour was appointed to determine the composition of the commission’s personnel. Donatas Jankauskas, the Minister of Social Security and Labour, confirmed the commission's personnel by the Order No A1-291 on June 28, 2010.
The main functions of the Commission
To present the Government of the Republic of Lithuania with proposals regarding:
- new legal acts or their revisions regulating the activities of non-governmental organisations;
- the development of cooperation between state, municipality institutions and non-governmental organisations;
- means of implementing the development concept of non-governmental organisations.
The Commission is composed of 20 members:
9 state institutions;
1 Lithuanian municipality association;
10 representatives from non-governmental organisations, delegated by the National NGO Coalition.
A list of the Commission’s members:
As part of a general agreement, NGO representatives are selected by the national umbrella associations of NGOs. The composition of the Commission's personnel is approved every two years by the Minister of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania. The Commission for Coordinating NGO Dealings meets every two months, meetings are open. Various issues relevant to NGOs are discussed.
